Turning plastic waste into chemicals for mobile device paints
Forging ahead with a growing partnership to encourage and facilitate recycling
Samhwa Paints signed an agreement with LG Chem on the supply of chemical recyclables on Tuesday, August 8, 2023.
A ceremony took place at LG Twin Towers in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, to occasion the signing of the agreement, attended by Ryu Gi-bung, Samhwa’s CEO, and Song Byeong-geun, Director of Acryl Business at LG Chem, among others.
The agreement partners the two companies for a circular society, coordinating their cooperation over a wide range of business activities, including not just the development of sustainable products, but also joint marketing.
Specifically, LG Chem is to provide Samhwa with recycled pyrolysis oil, which Samhwa is then to use as an ingredient for the paints it produces for mobile devices.
Samhwa intends to apply the recycled material after environmental claim validation (ECV) by Underwriters Laboratories (UL), a US-based safety testing agency.
A Samhwa spokesperson explained: “There is a huge and growing demand worldwide for everything sustainable, and the demand for products made with recycled materials will only grow further now that governments are tightening regulations on plastic waste as well. We will work closely with LG Chem to satisfy the need for better recycling and resource circulation.”
